Renaissance : rebirth / revival
When we started to build a blend for
Espresso Nectar, we sought to recreate every ounce of nostalgia we could muster with the coffee selections, roast style, and method of extraction. Through months of experimentation and trying what feels like every coffee or blend combination under the Sun, we settled on a blend that captures a classical presentation in both form and taste, while honoring our specific point of view as coffee roasters. We were so excited about this blend, we decided it would be wonderful to share this selection straight up for all of you to enjoy.
For the first time ever, we are releasing a blend that has a small percentage of Robusta in it, a species of coffee not usually found in specialty, often used as an accent in Italian espresso blends. Robustas have not always had a great reputation in the industry, but like anything else, there are always exceptions, and we found a stellar one from East Timor that lends a big body, lasting mulling spice, fig, and tart cherry. It is quite lovely on its own, but in the tradition of older style, pre-roast blends, it makes up 10% of the blend. We are using our
Patroness as a 60% component to make up the base, with a washed Honduran coffee at 30% which lends structure and a flourish of baker's chocolate to the flavor profile. Despite all this, it still feels like a "Bar Nine" release, albeit one wholly unique from anything else we've shared.
Whether you are looking to pull some tight ristrettos, kick it old school with a French Press, or clean things up with Filters or Pour Overs, this blend will be something that everyone can enjoy. It is our most accessible and nostalgic release to date. We hope you enjoy.
